there are two different types of single use operating systems. the first is a multi-tasking system the second is a single application system, these are very different because one system allows the user to user multiple tasks where as the other system allows the user to carry out only one task.

an example of a single user, single application system would be a Nokia phone, these phones would only let the user open one application at a time and use only one application at a time. a person could message someone from the phone but if they wanted to view their contacts then they would have to close the messaging application and open the contacts application.

the second types of system is a single user multitasking system. this is the likes of a computer running windows operating system. on a  computer a person can carry out many different tasks at once but only one person can use the computer at one time which makes it a single user system.
